The product highlighted on day thirteen of our 31 Days of Hemp campaign can be used to protect a variety of surfaces: hemp varnish. With little-to-no volatile organic compounds (VOCs), hemp oil is a an environmental and health-friendly base for paints and sealants, often outperforming petroleum-based products. A “drying oil” with natural polymer-forming properties, it can be combined with solvents, resins, and other oils. In addition to wood treatments, hemp oil can be applied as a finisher to revitalize leather and cast iron, to name a few.
